Talks to clubs and societies on magic is something I have done for several years but for some reason have never advertised that service on my website.

Only yesterday, 21st July 2016, I was booked for a talk at a Probus Club in Lymington, having been recommended to the secretary by a third party. I thought therefore that perhaps it is time to advertise this service.

My talk is suitable for all sorts of clubs and societies, for example Women’s Institute branches, Probus Clubs, Over Sixties Groups, U3A etc.

The talks normally take about 40 to 45 minutes followed by questions. I describe the different aspects of magic, say a little about its history and some of the famous magicians of the past, including Harry Houdini perhaps still the most famous magician and answer the frequently asked question of how I got into magic.

Houdini was an honorary member of the Southampton based Associated Wizards of the South (A.W.S. ) See my Blog page entry on the A.W.S. for a photograph of Houdini.

The A.W.S. was founded in 1911. Members of the A.W.S. performed in shows to raise money for the families of victims of the sinking of the Titanic. An early member was Professor Harry Woodley who lived in West Wellow, coincidentally where I live. Woodley was President of the AWS in 1921 and again 50 years later on the occasion of its 60th anniversary. I have had the honour to be its President on four occasions, including its centenary year.
I was made an Honorary Life Member in May 2016.

I intersperse my talk with the performance of a number of magical effects, often involving members of the audience.

So if your club needs a speaker on an entertaining subject please get in touch. My fees are reasonable, from about £60.00 for a weekday. Email me at or telephone me on 01794 324345.
