Entertainment in Care Homes is a growing part of my work.
Magic is a great form of entertainment in care homes and is usually thoroughly enjoyed by the residents. I have performed at a large number of care homes over the years and recently this type of work has increased considerably. I have had several re- bookings this year.
Whilst I can be totally flexible to meet clients’ requirements my most popular offering is an hour’s entertainment comprising a colourful and very visual magic show. This is interspersed with some chat about magic, including its history and stories of famous magicians of the past. Nearly everyone has heard of Houdini, probably the most famous magician ever. What is not so well known is that Houdini was an honorary member of the Southampton based Associated Wizards of the South, see www.awsmagic.co.uk , one of the magic clubs to which I belong and to which I was elected an Honorary Life Member in May 2016..
My magic shows in care homes are carefully devised so that they suit the needs of the residents. I try to involve the residents as much as possible in the show. I also perform a small illusion or two subject to the availability of a care home staff member to act as the assistant.(She would not have to wear a costume like the one in the photo.) This always goes down well with the residents.
Most care homes want their entertainment during the week in the afternoon which enables working magicians to do it for a lower fee than in the evenings and at weekends which are obviously busier.
